Sandeep Singh of Hyannis, Massachusetts, had been nursing a wounded heart after his girlfriend called it quits with him. A quick-pick Mega Millions ticket proved to be an unexpected balm; it matched all five numbers and the Mega Ball. Another player in California also held a winning ticket, so Singh will net half of the $61 million jackpot. 

“[My girlfriend] broke up with me. But right now, I’m not really worried about it. I was heartbroken at first, but now I am getting over it,” he said. Singh plans on sharing his winnings with his family, resigning from his two jobs and going to college.
