When it comes to aptly-named winners, there can’t be any more appropriate ones than David Fortune.

The man is celebrating after winning $5 million while playing the New York Lotto. The 53-year-old admitted he still cannot believe his luck after scooping the life-changing sum of money.

However, it all could have been very different for Mr. Fortune, as he initially did not realize he had won. A few days later, he looked at the ticket again while doing his laundry and was very happy to make the discovery.

He has chosen to take the lottery winnings a cash lump sum and so will collect $3.3 million after taxes. Fortune said he views his good luck as a gift from God and intends to give a portion of the money away to various charities.

The 53-year-old admitted that over the years he has been taunted over his last name, but now he is having the last laugh as a multi-millionaire.
