Couple hits lottery twice in one weekend, wins over $1 million

Friday, February 08, 2013

An Arkansas couple won $1 million on a scratch-off ticket from their local convenience store on a recent Saturday, and less than 24 hours later hit another big win.

Stephen and Terri Weaver of Stuttgart, Arkansas, were on a fishing trip to a cabin when they stopped at the T-Ricks convenience store in tiny Pangburn (population 750) and picked up a $1 Million Riches ticket. When they scratched it off they returned to the store to get it verified, and received confirmation that their ticket was a million-dollar winner.

“We decided we’d buy a few more because we were going to stay at the cabin for the rest of the day,” said Stephen. They brought their tickets back to the cabin, where Terri stayed on with her daughter and son-in-law for the weekend while Stephen later went back home. That evening Terri found out one of the $10 “Taxes Paid” tickets was a $50,000 winner.

“The lady [behind the register] was pretty much floored,” said Stephen.

After taxes, the couple netted $714,000. They plan to use the money to pay off bills and invest in their retirement. Both intend to keep working.
