Evelyn & Tim Sheppard win $1 Million Cash Prize!

Today, the New Hampshire Lottery announced that the very first winners of its new $20 scratch game, Million Dollar Cash Spectacular, have just come forward to claim their prize – $1 million cash!

“We’re very, very excited for Evelyn and Tim,” said Debra Douglas, Chairwoman of the New Hampshire Lottery who had the honor of presenting the check to the couple. “The Sheppard’s are a great family from the seacoast and very loyal New Hampshire lottery players. We are thrilled that they’re the first of many to win the million dollar prize.”

After purchasing the winning scratch ticket earlier today at Heath’s Mobil Mart on Woodbury Avenue in Portsmouth, Tim Sheppard brought home the half-scratched ticket to give his wife, Evelyn, the honors of trying her chance at scratching a winner. Much to Evelyn’s surprise, she matched the winning number of 18 and beneath that number was the $1,000,000 prize. The Sheppard’s claimed their prize at Lottery Headquarters earlier this afternoon.

“The Sheppard’s have been great customers for a very long time, so this couldn’t have happened to a nicer couple,” said Lisa Heath, owner of Heath’s Mobil Mart on Woodbury Avenue in Portsmouth where the winning ticket was purchased. “We’ve been selling Lottery tickets for over 20 years now with no big, winning tickets, so we’re very excited this is our first.”

Million Dollar Cash Spectacular, which launched in December, offers players a variety of cash prizes, including four top prizes of $1 million, six prizes of $100,000, eight prizes of $20,000 and 12 prizes of $10,000. The game offers players a prize payout greater than 75 percent – the highest prize payout in New Hampshire Lottery history.

“What a great way to kick off the New Year!” said Executive Director Charlie McIntyre. “With three top prizes of $1 million still up for grabs, we can’t wait to see who’s next!”
